We are over halfway through our Whole30 journey, at least for the first 30 days. It’s hard to believe it’s been so long already. Here are updates for the past few days.

Day 14
I have one word for you: BACON!! Yes, bacon. Most brands of bacon have sugar, so I didn’t think it would be possible to have bacon. But, I found a brand that has some no-sugar options: Pederson Natural Farms. Oh, I enjoyed those 2 strips so much. I will definitely be having that again soon. Like, maybe tomorrow! And they are Whole30-compliant!!
Pederson’s also has hot dogs (which I had tonight) and sausage. You can find them at certain stores. My husband was able to get it at the Lowe’s Foods near us.
Day 15
Fred put pork in the crockpot today; I had no idea what he was making. Pork carnitas. Yummy. We had it on lettuce, with a side of onions, zucchini, and garlic. Also a small side salad. Then an apple for dessert. I’m finally allowing myself to have a little more fruit. I don’t feel like I have the same sugar cravings I used to have (except for chocolate…I still want chocolate).
Day 16
With baseball practice tonight, we had leftovers. I also had Fred make me an Italian dressing that we made a long time ago when doing the South Beach diet (I always felt hungry on that one, but I was also still nursing twins).
The slip in the shower may have been a little worse than we originally thought. The pain still hasn’t gone away. We called the doctor, who will be referring me to a pain clinic. I have to say, this has been especially difficult on me. I am craving comfort food (especially chocolate and ginger ale). I’ve still held to the diet, though. I’m determined to not let anything get in the way.
Day 17
Today was another leftover day. I had the rest of my grilled steak with vegetables and a side salad. I’m still having a salad most days for lunch, and eggs with either bacon or roast beef (Boar’s Head has one type that doesn’t have sugar) for breakfast.
I finally realized that I haven’t had a nap in at least 4 days! That is unusual for me. I hope it is the diet and not the steroids. I could use a little pick me up right about now.
I just read recently about there being beef jerky that is free of sugar, MSG, gluten, and soy. There are a couple of different types on Amazon. Sogo Snacks has 100% Grass-Fed Beef Sticks that sound really good. I may have to order some soon. If you are a member of Amazon Prime, many purchases have free 2-day shipping. Definitely worth it!

Final Thoughts
Fred has noticed that his clothes are fitting differently, and I have finally stopped having most of the cravings. We still have a long way to go, especially me. The Whole30 program did say now is the time that you should be seeing or feeling some changes, unless you have underlying health problems, especially with autoimmune or leaky gut. I’m sure it will be awhile before I reintroduce foods. Fred says he wants to try beer first.
Until next time,
Kim.
