Waiting for His Return

Today’s Verse

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” – John 14:1-3, NIV

Jonathan was ten when his dad was transferred for his job. He watched as his father packed his suitcase, adding in a few trinkets he didn’t want his dad to be without.

“How long will you be gone?” Jonathan asked.

“A little while,” his father replied. “I have to get settled there. But I’m coming back for you and your mom and your brother. That’s a promise.”

“But when will you come back?” Jonathan said, wishing his father never had to leave in the first place.

His dad plopped down on the bed. “Come here.” He wrapped his arms around the young boy, “I’m going away, but while I’m gone, I’m going to be looking for a house. I’ll be preparing a place so we can all live together again.”

Like Jonathan is expecting his father to return, Christians can eagerly await the return of Jesus. When that day comes, you’ll be warmly welcomed into your Father’s home, where there’s a seat saved just for you!

Prayer

God, thank You for the promise of Jesus’ returning. Make me faithful and productive with the time You’ve entrusted to me. Let me live in eager anticipation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
