Social Boundaries

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” – Mark 6:31, NIV

Nathan started a blog about his fitness journey several years ago. He shared his faith through his posts and tried to encourage his community. He was also active on social media. He was always looking around for what he could tweet about or selfie ideas he could upload to Instagram.

A friend on Facebook noticed how often Nathan was online. When he saw him again in real life, he encouraged him to create social boundaries.

“Social media is great, and it’s awesome that you’re using it to share your faith. But when was the last time you stepped away to rest and recharge?”

In our world today with the Internet always on, it’s easy to let boundaries slide.  Before you know it, you’re connected 24/7, and you’re missing out on important moments in your life.

Even as busy as Jesus was, He made time to rest. If He prioritized it, we should too. Consider taking a social media Sabbath once every week. Leave your phone off for 24 hours and focus on reconnecting with God, your family, and your friends.

Prayer:

Lord, sometimes, I make social media and the Internet too big a priority. Help me to slow down and take time to recharge. Show me how to rest in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
