“Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” – Hebrews 13:16, NIV
Devotional About Giving – Day 17
Bryan was in the fourth grade when his dad was injured in a severe car accident. He survived but wasn’t able to work. He had a long road to recovery ahead that would include multiple surgeries and months of physical therapy.
Overnight, Bryan’s life changed. His mom started working long hours, trying to keep a roof over their heads. As the Christmas season neared, the Christmas tree went up, but there were no gifts under it.
Bryan’s older brother explained that there wasn’t enough money to go around. “We’ll have Dad, and that’s the best gift,” his brother comforted him.
A few days before Christmas, there was a knock on the door. When Bryan’s mom opened it, an older man introduced himself. He explained that he was from a local organization and they wanted to provide Christmas for the family.
Years later, Bryan still remembers that as his best Christmas. Not because of the gifts, but because it meant his family wasn’t forgotten.
Now Bryan saves up year-round to afford gifts for other families in need. He wants them to know that God sees their situation and cares.
God, please show me a family I could bless this Christmas. I want to be part of comforting families like Bryan’s this holiday season.
