“Just as a nursing mother cares for her children, so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” – 1 Thessalonians 2:7-8, NIV
Four-year-old Jacob frequently stops to admire plants. “He’s fascinated by them,” Nancy, his mom explains. “I think he gets it from his grandmother. She owned a nursery when I was a young girl.”
Normally, Jacob’s mom has to pull him away from plants. She always considered it more of a distraction until one sunny Wednesday a few weeks ago. “Jacob bent down on the sidewalk to study a cluster of purple flowers that had managed to grow in the cracks of the sidewalk.”
Nancy was about to urge her son to keep moving when 1 Thessalonians 2:8 came to mind. “I thought about what Paul said. He talked about not only sharing the gospel of God with others but also our very lives.”
When Nancy thought of this, she smiled. “I can’t think of anything more important than sharing life with a little one.” So, she got down on the ground and spent time admiring the flower with her son, cherishing the ordinary moment.
God, help me to share my faith and my life with my children. I want them to see You in everything, even flowers in the sidewalk. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
