“Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the LORD.’” – 2 Kings 20:5, NIV
King Hezekiah was suffering from a terrible illness. He was close to death when the prophet Isaiah visited him. Isaiah told the king that he would die soon and warned him to prepare his household.
When King Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed and wept.
As Isaiah was leaving the palace, God sent him back to the king with a message. He proclaimed that Hezekiah would live for fifteen more years and the city would be saved from capture.
God healed Hezekiah when he called out to him. When we pray for others, we can pray for healing for them in several areas: healing from physical diseases and ailments; healing from addictions and spiritual darkness; and healing from emotional trauma and suffering.
Your prayers don’t have to be long or eloquent. Hezekiah simply said: “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” (2 Kings 20:3)
