“But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what
is done in secret, will reward you.” – Matthew 6:3-4, NIV
Devotional About Giving – Day 20
Glenn was a third generation firefighter who loved Christmas. Every year, he and his crew would choose a family in need and provide them with Christmas. It was one of Glenn’s favorite traditions.
To find a needy family, Glenn and the other firefighters would visit homes around the county, under the guise of checking fire alarms. These visits gave them the chance to make sure low-income homes had working smoke detectors and spot people who could use a miracle.
Glenn and his crew found a family in need and made a list of what they’d like to provide. But while they were still planning, a call came through emergency dispatch. There was a fire at the house of the family they selected.
Although their home perished, each family member was safe and survived. One of his crew members created a fund for the family online, and donations poured in. By Christmas Eve, there were so many donations that the firefighters were able to move the family into a new home.
Look for a way you can quietly bless someone else this Christmas season. It could be a family down the street that lost their income, a single mom in your workplace who’s struggling, or a widower who needs to know he isn’t alone.
God, I want to be a secret Santa to someone. Show me who I can help!
