“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!” – John 16:33
Gary woke in the middle of the night. He couldn’t go back to sleep, so he began praying. As he prayed, his friend, Keith kept coming to mind. He began to pray earnestly, begging God to give Keith peace and protection.
The next day, Gary heard from Keith’s wife. Keith, an active duty police officer, had been shot while on the job. Despite all of the chaos going on around him, Keith had the presence of mind to comfort those around him.
“He’s sleeping now, but you should have seen him earlier,” Keith’s wife said. “He was so peaceful. He was on the gurney, smiling like there wasn’t a thing in the world wrong.”
Sometimes, it can be difficult to know what to pray for a friend. Take a page from Gary’s book and pray that your friend has peace no matter what situation they may be in.
Lord, please comfort (your friend’s name). Let them feel Your presence and Your peace, regardless of what happens this week. Comfort them with Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
