Nurture a Dream

“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” – Romans 12:13 (NIV)

Tracey was a stay-at-home mom and a caretaker for her two disabled children. Her husband worked two jobs to provide for his family and cover their mounting medical bills.

Tracey wanted to ease the financial burden on her husband, so she started looking into work-at-home opportunities.

She had a friend who sold makeup and was making a part-time income with plans to turn it into a full-time job. Tracey could do the same, but she would have to make a big investment to get her business started. No matter how she crunched the numbers, she couldn’t come up with the startup costs.

When Tracey was over at her in-laws’ house for their annual New Year’s Eve party, she shared her dream with her husband and his family.

On Valentine’s Day, Tracey received a card from her mother-in-law in the mail. Along with the card was a check for her startup costs. In her usual script, her mother-in-law had written, “I believe in you and your dreams.”

Nurturing someone’s dream is a simple way to show people you care. You don’t have to give money—you can give of your time by listening to a friend’s dream or of your energy by helping a friend tackle a difficult business task.

God, send me someone who needs to know their dream matters. Let me be a source of sweet encouragement to them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
