“When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.”
—Matthew 8:14
Jesus went to stay with Peter and his wife following the temple service on the Sabbath. While he was there, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law was sick with a fever.
A fever is the immune system’s response to an infection. In some cases, a fever can be life-threatening. Though we’re not told the exact illness, some versions of the Bible note that Peter’s mother-in-law had a severe fever.
Seeing her illness, Jesus acts. He takes her hand, and the moment He does, she is fully healed. So, complete is her healing that she immediately gets up and starts ministering to Jesus and those with Him.
Her reaction must have stemmed from gratitude toward Jesus, and it’s a wonderful example for Christians everywhere to follow. Write a note to a friend who needs encouragement. Mow the lawn for an elderly neighbor. Volunteer to babysit for a couple who needs a date night.
Your act doesn’t have to be big or time-consuming. Even something simple like picking up extra groceries and dropping them off at the local food pantry can be a simple way to thank Jesus for His healing in your life.
God, I thank You for all the times You’ve healed me. Open my eyes to ways I can give back to show You my gratitude. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
