Letters of Love

“First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.” – Romans 1:8, NIV

daily devotionalWhen Mary was growing up, her mother insisted that she write one handwritten note a week. “It could be a letter to a friend, a thank-you card to a grandparent, or even just a scribbled missing-you note in my dad’s lunchbox.”

The habit stuck with her in her adult years, and she still writes dozens of notes each year. But as time has passed, Mary has lost track of all the notes she’s written and the words she shared.

Recently, Mary reconnected with a high school classmate on Facebook. The other woman sent her an instant message, thanking her for the note she had received.

“You may not remember it,” her friend typed. “But your words really helped me. On the anniversary of the day my dad died, you slipped a beautiful card into my locker. I had been feeling so alone that day, and even when I think about your message today, it brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for taking the time to write to me!”

daily devotionalPrayer:

God, sometimes, I’m tempted to believe that I’m too busy to reach out. Please, help me to slow down and look for opportunities to bless someone else. I want to be Your hands and feet in this hurting world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
