The Kindness Rocks Project – Devotional About Giving

“…Encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11, NIV

Devotional About Giving – Day 18

Devotional About Giving

Megan Murphy, a woman, living in Barnstable, Massachusetts, often went to the beach for the peace and calm it gave her. She’d recently lost both of her parents, and the loneliness was crushing.

As she walked on the sand, Megan often found bits of sea glass and rocks. She viewed them as little reminders that her parents were still with her.

She wanted to comfort others the way she was comforted, so Megan took a few rocks home and began doodling on them with markers and adding positive messages to each one. The next day, she returned to the beach and scattered her new creations along the shore.

As other people discovered the rocks, a movement began. People wanted to join in, so Megan started hosting rock decorating events and invited her community to help her.

Now, The Kindness Rocks Project is a global movement. You can see the various rocks that have been painted and discovered when you visit Megan’s Instagram profile, @TheKindnessRocksProject.

Art can be an excellent way to give your time and talents. Whether you’re painting rocks for strangers, knitting a sweater for a loved one, or coloring a positive thought for a friend, you can use your art to encourage those around you.

God, help me to use art to inspire others. I want to create projects that make people smile!
