The Gift of a Father’s Presence – Devotional About Giving

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
compassion and the God of all comfort…” – 2 Corinthians 1:3

Devotional About Giving – Day 13

Devotional About Giving

Michael took his three-year-old daughter to the park to play. He watched from a bench while the little girl happily toddled around the slide, enjoying time with her friends.

He glanced down at his smartphone, anxiously waiting for a call from his wife. They’d just learned that she had a severe health condition and would need surgery soon. The question that had been haunting him since the diagnosis came to mind again.

“Why? Why my family? We try to be good people. My wife’s a good person. Please show me that You care about me!” he whispered. But no one seemed to answer him, and Michael felt his heart break all over again.

Before he could continue to ponder, he heard a little girl whimper.  Michael looked up to see a small blonde girl sitting up from the dirt with a scraped knee. Instantly, the other dad ran to his daughter who was crying and pulled her close.

“Daddy’s here, Daddy’s here,” he said over the squealing toddler as he rocked her back and forth.

Those four words rocked Michael to his core. He’d always assumed God was quiet during times of stress and chaos in his life. He imagined God gathering him up in His arms and whispering those same words as he cried out in pain, “Daddy’s here. Daddy’s here.”

God, sometimes my pain makes me feel alone. In those moments, help me to feel Your arms wrapping around me and holding on.
