“For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.” – Romans 6:6-7, NIV
Lisa spent years watching her brother and her sister-in-law make poor choices. Eventually, their party lifestyle led both to serious drug addiction. Although the couple had children, their addictions meant they rarely stayed employed
After watching them continue to make destructive choices, Lisa turned away from her brother and his wife. She couldn’t bear to see the destruction and chaos any longer.
Lisa’s parents stepped in to raise their grandchildren, getting permission to become their legal guardians. They cared for them as if they were their own children and provided for their every need.
But they never gave up hope on Lisa’s brother or his wife. Eventually, the couple accepted Jesus as their Savior. The two began making changes in their life and getting sober together.
It can be heartbreaking to watch family members make the same bad decisions again and again. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up on them. Jesus is still in the business of setting people free! That means there’s still hope for the prodigal in your life.
Prayer:
Lord, help me. It makes my heart ache to see (loved one’s name) make unwise choices. But this person is precious to You, God. Please work a miracle in their life. Set them free! I ask this in the name of Jesus, the Eternal One who can completely heal and restore, Amen.
