Angel at the Gas Station

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others
will be refreshed.” – Proverbs 11:25 (NIV)

Dewey stopped for gas early one morning on his way to work as a landscape specialist. He didn’t normally stop for gas in the mornings, but his gas gauge hadn’t been accurate in the past few weeks.

When he pulled into the station, he saw a middle-aged woman struggling with the tire pump. She’d tangled the hose and was trying to unfurl it. She looked tired in the summer heat, so after Dewey finished pumping his gas, he approached her.

“Do you need some help, ma’am?” He asked quietly.

The woman looked up with tears in her eyes. “I don’t know how to do this.”

Dewey gave her a bright smile and took the hose. He refilled all four tires while he explained how to do it.

After he was done, the woman shared, “My husband passed away a few months ago. He always took care of the car for me. He was a mechanic, and he did everything. Now, I’m by myself…”

Dewey nodded. “I lost my wife a few years back. We thought we’d be together forever, but she had cancer. I had to take life one day at a time for a while.”

She gave him a watery smile, “Thank you for being my angel today. I asked God to send me one, and He sent you.”

God, when I see a person in need of help, let me be quick to act. Show me how to offer assistance and comfort to those around me gently. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
